LED mirrors: backlit or front-lit, warm or cool?

An illuminated mirror is one of the easiest upgrades to sell, and one of the easiest to get slightly wrong. The questions that matter are how it’s lit, what colour the light is, and what’s needed to connect it.

The price ladder

Usually, from least to most expensive: plain mirror → mirrored cabinet → LED mirror. Lighting, demisters, shaver sockets and charging points push the price up. That’s the normal progression, not a rule. Size, brand and features can move a product either way.

Backlit or front-lit?

Warm, cool or adjustable?

  • Warm white: softer and more relaxed. It suits brass and warm tiles.
  • Cool white: crisp and bright. It suits chrome and grey.
  • Neutral or daylight: colours look natural, which helps for make-up and shaving.
  • Colour-changing (CCT): the customer chooses. Check the model really does this. “LED” on its own doesn’t mean adjustable.

Price the connection, not just the mirror

An illuminated mirror needs a suitable electrical supply and connection, installed by a qualified electrician. A plain mirror doesn’t. So the upgrade costs more than the difference between the two shelf prices.

The mirror isn’t the only light

A mirror light is task and mood lighting. The room still needs general lighting to light it properly.

Show it in the room

In KBB Go a mirror centres itself over the basin below it, and a backlit option shows the glow on the wall. With the lighting set from day to evening, cool to warm, the customer can see how it’ll feel at 7 in the morning and at 10 at night.
